How scalable are on-premise digital signage systems?
Learn how on-premise signage scales across multiple screens and sites.
On-premise digital signage can be highly scalable, depending on your network configuration and hardware capacity. There are two major ways to scale an on-premise setup: within a single location or across multiple sites.
Single-Site Scaling:
When all screens are on the same local network, scaling is straightforward. You can connect multiple screens to one central server, depending on the server's hardware capacity.
Multi-Site Scaling:
If you want to connect screens across cities or buildings, you will require a WAN setup. This will enable all the screens at different branches to get connected to one central server.
This setup requires:
Proper firewall configuration for secure communication.
Static IP assignment for server reachability.
Adequate bandwidth and infrastructure to support data transfer.

Example:
Banks mostly use WAN-based on-premise networks, where signage in several branches is controlled by the head office server.
While scaling across multiple sites requires more technical setup, it is fully achievable with proper IT support. With the right configuration, on-premise signage can manage hundreds or thousands of screens efficiently from one central server.
